Awesome Giveaway!!

Yet another awesome giveaway at the naturalbaby company (home of the Gro Baby System). I recieved a free shell set during a giveaway and was instantly "converted" to cloth diapering! The transition to CD has been smooth and easier than I had anticipated...thanks to Gro Baby's convenient "all in two" system. I am currently testing the new biosoakers (which are also great---to be blogged about soon!). Next on the list to add to my growing CD repertoire: Tiny Bubbles Detergent!! I am currently using a free/clear detergent and was just recently questioning it's efficiently: not too sure about the amount of suds I'm seeing and that makes me nervous...don't want to mess with my precious Gro Baby's !! Hope to try yet another sample of The Natural Baby Company's great product line!

Grobaby Giveaway

I've been comtemplating the switch to cloth for a few months now. As a SAHM I'd really like to take on the "challenge" but there are so many thoughts and opinions as to which diapers are best so I've pretty much reached a stalemate. I'd really hate to make the investment and discover that the brand is not for me and I can't afford to try a lot of different kinds. The giveaway by Grobaby (a brand that I have heard good things about) may be the answer to all my questions. Hopefully this works out...I'll let you know!!

Our little girl

Leila Joy will be eleven months the day after tomorrow! Where has the time gone? It seems like all of a sudden our little baby is more our little girl/toddler...where did that baby go? It's a little sad to see that baby changing, but we are so proud of all the things she can do and the little person she is becoming. Her walking is getting better and better; she's smart as a whip; and best of all, she's a genuinely sweet and happy person....our little JOY :)

I really need to stay updated on this blog so I can have some sort of record of all the things she does (and pretty soon says!) Let's see...a few things that come to mind from this week:

*helping mommy with laundry--I was loading the dryer when she crawled out of her room to "check on me." she was playing around with the dryer door, so I handed her a bib and said, "here help mommy, put this in the dryer." She took it, looked at me for half a second and tossed it in! I didn't really think she would do it (I didn't point or show her how) but she figured it out...dishes next! j/k

*sign language--she is really into signing...I can't wait to take her to the baby sign classes at the library (they are during her naptime right now)...she watches me sign and is actually starting to make some signs herself ("milk," "more," "book")...I can even say "Leila, where's" (sign book) and she will look around and grab the nearest book!

*singing!--she loves music and singing...I think the only time she ever sits still is when daddy is playing guitar--she's mesmerized! He doesn't like to sing, but he's not too bad (I, on the other hand, am terrible; but I sing all the time, Leila doesn't know any better--yet). So I made him try singing to her, insisting that she really likes it. He did, and she put her head on his shoulder and starting singing too! (so sweet...yes, I cried)

*more singing--today we took a trip to Babies r us (shh...don't tell daddy!) On the way, I was singing along with the radio; I heard Leila and thought she might be whining/crying so I stopped to listen...she was singing along! Just kind of "la, la, ba, la" singsong....we sang the whole way there--I loved it! Then, when we were in the store looking at a couple of things (ok, feverishly pawing through the clothes on the clearance rack). Leila Joy has gotten into this really bad habit of yelling/shrieking to get attention when we are out shopping, so I usually tune her out a bit. Today, however, I suddenly became aware of the sounds she was making..."ba, ba, la, ma, la," in a sweet little tune...she was singing to herself! I thought it was so awesome...because really all I want most for her is to be happy--the kind of person who goes around singing to themself.

I looked at her and smiled and kind of copied her tune and then asked..."are you singing? You sing so beautifully!" She stopped for a second, looked right at me, gave me the biggest smile, and starting singing again--this time I realized not just to herself, but also for me.....even better :)

It's Been Even Longer....But worth the wait!!!

We've been very busy the last few weeks....I couldn't really tell you why, but we've been busy just the same. Two great visits from our parents (Lito and Lita one weekend, Grandma and Grandpa the next).

Leila Joy has NOT been sleeping well (at least for naps) the last week and a half....she is only taking one 1 hour nap a day, which really isn't enough. Because she takes only a morning nap, she gets tired in the late afternoon. We don't want to force her to stay up, so she ends up having her bath at 4:45 and asleep around 5:15pm. She ends up waking up around 5:30am---way too early for mommy!! So we are working on trying to get that 2nd nap back. Which leads me to something big...

Most of the books/articles I've been reading say that naps will be negatively affected any time the baby is sick, teething or developing a new milestone; then they usually return to their usual routine once the excitement has passed. Well she hasn't been sick so we thought it might be teething (although she doesn't seem to teething any more than she has in the past few months) but she did just get a third tooth in about 5 days ago (bottom right) so we thought that could have been it. But that didn't really seem to change anything, so I guess that leaves the third idea about learning a new skill/milestone....hmm...well I think that must be it because...(drumroll!)

Leila Joy started WALKING today!!
I came home from work today on my lunch break and just as I was about to leave Ryan put her down and she stood there, looked at him and took a step...then another...then another....then she kind of ran/stumbled into his arms. I was in shock! Even though she has been taking 1 step on her own for a while, she didn't seem too interested in going any further than that.
I was so surprised; I laughed, I cried--Ryan and I hugged---and needless to say I was late getting back to work :)

So our 10 mos, 2 day old baby girl is walking...at least to me she is.....check out the video and see what you think. Either way, we better make sure the house is babyproof ASAP! She is going to be a handful, that's for sure....but maybe walking will tire her out and we'll get that second nap back? A mom can dream can't she?
